461,294 .de IDNs registered
Probably the first country to adopt IDNs and widely use them is Germany. The Germans have a large number of IDNs registered and in use, and there is an active market already for IDNs in both there country’s ccTLD .de and other major TLDs such as .com, .net and .biz.
Today DENIC, the manager of the the .de extension, released figures stating that 13 million .de domains registered, making it the extension with the second highest domains registered after .com.
Interestingly out of the total .de domains registered, 461,294 out of the 13 million, are IDN domains.
This goes to show the very high adoptance of IDNs in Germany, seeing as the language only has 4 letters not on an English keyboard. ä, ö, ü, ß (while ß is not available in IDNs)

Interesting post. Yes, German language domain names are very much mainstream now. I think local language domains are pretty much great, especially seeing as most of the world does not have English speaking as their first main language. Typing in your own language is obviously more natural.
